2014 Saralee's Vineyard Dry Gewurztraminer
Aromatic and Bone Dry, 2015 Sonoma County Harvest Gold Medal Winner, 2015 Australia's Six Nation Challenge Gold Medal Winner, 2016 Los Angeles International Wine and Spirits Competition Gold Medal and Best in Class!
Sebastopol, once the home of the Gravenstein apple, is now a confluence of outstanding vineyards, excellent soil, a balance of sun and fog, renowned winemakers, veteran vineyard managers, cream-of-the-crop students from UC Davis, and a passion wine everywhere you turn.
Our desire is to concentrate our efforts in this grape growing region to produce the best wines possible. Our greatest joy is to share this heaven-on-earth with you in a bottle of Dry Gewurztraminer. And please join us for our annual harvest party each fall!
These light pink clusters were grown just north of Sebastopol by one of the areas most respected growers, Sarahlee Kunde. Once we tasted a Gewurztraminer from Alsace paired with Asian spices that we enjoy, we had to make one. This is bone-dry, crisp and luscious, exploding with aromatics that deliver their promise to the palate.
Release Date: Feb. 2014
Winemaker: Rick Davis
Cases Produced: 185
Fermentation Method: The grapes were harvested in early morning and immediately destemmed and pressed in a bladder press. The wine was transferred to a stainless steel tank where it went through primary fermentation. There was no malolactic fermentation and no oak.
Tasting Notes: The expressive nose is full of ripe lychee, rose petals and a hint of magnolia. There are bright crisp acids that blend with minerality on the mid-plalate, offering flavors of lychee, rose petals, and a touch of grapefruit and ginger with a lingering cleansing finish of fine spice. Absolutely stunning with Indian curry, a fine chicken or goose liver pate, roasted chestnuts, or Thanksgiving turkey.
