1999 Scherrer Halleck Vineyard Estate
1999 Estate Grown
In 1999, Fred Scherrer, famed winemaker from Delinger, purchased our first harvest of the Halleck Vineyard Estate. None of us could have predicted the future, but we were honored to have Fred buy our grapes. The majority he blended into his "Sonoma Coast Blend". But as a gracious gesture, he made two cases of wine specifically from our fruit and gave it to us. We have about a case left.
During our Harvest Party for 2016, we opened this wine for the first time in over a decade. The notes taken by all participants were telling: the wine was stunning. Still alive, certainly old, and tipping its hat to a heritage of great Burgundies. We are thrilled with the results and owe Fred a debt of gratitude.
Tasting Notes November 2016 (as written by participants to the 2016 Harvest Party)
Color: Pheasant blood, deep
Nose: Earthy, mushroms with subtle fruit, intense aromas
Mouthfeel: Luscious, textural, full
Flavor: Rich, tobacco, earthy, still cherry fruit notes but giving way to forest floor and mineral tones. Exciting!
