I’m Blaze, the Halleck Vineyard dog. Many of you have met me either on our deck sipping wine or at our annual harvest party. Some of your pets have even emailed me (blaze@halleckvineyard.com). One thing is for sure, if you have met me then you’ve thrown my slobbery tennis ball!
The Hallecks brought me on board for pest control back in 2001 when I was a puppy . Bet you can’t guess what pest I control. It’s not the starlings (they use a net for those tiny birds). It’s not the deer (deer fencing works wonders). Could it be wasps? (I’m not that stupid – Jennifer and Ross courageously hang 30 wasps traps each year). How about gophers? (not a chance – they just let the gophers eat what they want). Give up? It’s turkeys! Yep. Good ole wild turkeys. Reintroducing wild turkeys to California was a great idea except that it turns out they LOVE Pinot Noir grapes. They can be seen swooping (yes, swooping) down from the trees 30 at a time and can devour a row in one sitting. Now I am also in charge of chasing away our newest pests - raccoons!
I’m proud to say that I have done my job thoroughly and have kept those pests out of my vineyard now for 7 years! In honor of my good work, the Hallecks have decided to instititute the Halleck Vineyard Dog Club and I invite all of you to sign your dogs up. Your dog will be listed on our website with a photo and will also receive a welcome gift (a homemade dog treat).
